THE BEST COMPONENTS MAKE THE BEST SOLAR AND BATTERY SYSTEMS

Based on our decades of experience, we've carefully selected the products we believe will best serve our customers over the long haul. These are products we trust—and the ones we have on our own homes. They provide high value, performance, and reliability for our customers, and meet the exacting standards of customers who share our values.

Keeping our product offering consistent also supports our technicians' efficiency and competence—both in service and installation. Our team's depth of expertise and experience with our favorite products is another benefit to our customers.

Hyundai and Qcells (for solar panels/modules), Enphase Energy (for microinverters and batteries), and IronRidge (for racking) are our main partners, and represent 95%+ of our installations.

Racking companies we partner with are:

SOLAR MODULES: Qcells or Hyundai

We currently use Hyundai or Qcells modules for our solar electric system installations.

For our standard residential systems, we use Hyundai solar modules. We appreciate that they are a solid, high-quality module, manufactured by a multinational company that stands behind their products.

For commercial systems or premium residential systems, we also offer Qcells modules. We like their high quality product and that they are a strong company that stands behind its products and assembles their modules in North America, and will manufacture every part of their modules (including cells) in the USA

Both module manufacturers stand by their products with an outstanding 25-year limited product warranty and a 25-year performance warranty.

MICROINVERTERS AND BATTERIES: ENPHASE ENERGY

Besides the solar panels themselves, inverters are the next most important link in your solar power system. Inverters convert the direct current (DC) electricity generated by your solar panels into alternating current (AC) electricity—the kind of power used by your home or business.

We install Enphase Energy Microinverters, as well as the Enphase IQ Gateway system monitor.

Enphase Energy Microinverters are designed to maximize your energy production, provide excellent system monitoring, and last for the long term.

Enphase was an early leader in microinverters and is still the dominant player in the market.

An Enphase microinverter attaches to the solar racking, and is connected to each solar module. This allows us to monitor each module independently. We can see if there are any small problems before they become bigger. Customers are able to monitor system performance as a whole, or can pay a little extra to receive per-module monitoring.

Microinverters also are a benefit because:

  • There is no single point of failure. A microinverter system is totally distributed. Each microinverter converts DC to AC. This AC electricity is connected together in parallel, then connected to your electrical load center.
  • They produce greater energy output, especially if there is shading (because the DC-AC electricity conversion takes place at each panel, there is no "bottleneck" if one panel produces less or no electricity due to shading).
  • They work better on roofs with multiple planes.
  • There's no high-voltage DC on the roof (which can be a safety issue for firefighters)—just standard 240VAC.

As Enphase puts it:

Think of solar panels like bulbs in a string of holiday lights. In conventional inverter systems, when one panel fails, the whole system goes out. Or when one panel's output drops—thanks to fallen leaves, a passing cloud, or some other unavoidable factor—the system's overall performance drops to match that lowest-performing panel. With microinverters, each panel operates independently—so no matter what happens to any one panel, the rest of your system keeps shining bright.

For battery systems, we also use Enphase products. Enphase's IQ Batteries have all the same benefits that microinverters have–a distributed architecture that uses bidirectional microinverters to interface between the DC energy from the DC cells in the battery and the AC electricity used in your home and produced by your microinverters. Using Enphase products for both microinverters and batteries provides one integrated system, allowing easy monitoring and control of your solar and battery system.
