Installing solar for your business or non-profit

If you’re here, you probably already have some great reasons for considering solar for your organization. But we’d like to share the main reasons we see local Arizona businesses and non-profits choose to invest in solar on their facilities.

Why install solar for your business or non-profit?

  • To gain energy bill savings
  • To insulate your business from rising electric rates
  • To meet the values of your clients and team

For most businesses and non-profits, the top reason to install solar is energy bill savings. When you install solar, you’re investing in keeping your electricity costs lower.. Depending on your budget, utility rate plan, and the rooftop or parking lot space available, we can reduce your electric bill by 50-80%.

Solar also helps keep your costs consistent–all the electricity you generate from solar and use immediately saves you from buying electricity from your electric utility that is ever-increasing in cost. Over the past decade, we’ve seen rates rise an average of 2.49% a year, and in the last five years 3.86%. Because of the surging demand from data centers and other growth, many experts believe we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg of rate increases. For example, Tucson Electric Power has proposed an average increase of 12.1% for the most common rate plan for businesses, expected to take effect in the fall of 2026.

People are more likely to patronize businesses and partner with non-profit organizations that show their commitment to sustainability by installing solar on their facilities. We also find many employees believe it’s important to conserve resources in this beautiful part of our state. With solar, you have an opportunity to meet those values.

Why choose Net Zero Solar for your solar project?

As the saying goes, this is not our first rodeo. We’ve been installing residential and small commercial solar projects for a long, long time.

Net Zero Solar has been in business for over 17 years, and we have a leadership team each with more than two decades in renewable energy.

We are focused on making the solar installation process easy, smooth, and understandable.

Net Zero Solar has been in business since 2009. Our president Chad Waits has been working in solar since 2002, and our engineering director Louis has been working in renewable energy professionally since 2003. Beyond our leadership team, our senior staff all have at least a decade in solar, and the majority of our installers have 5-10 years of experience or more.

As small business owners, we understand how valuable your time and resources are. We value the importance of clear communication regarding costs, scope, savings, the construction process, and ongoing support. We’re here in your community and will continue to be so. As we learn about your needs, we want to build lasting relationships with our clients as we build infrastructure for you.

We know who we are–our focus is on small to moderate sized businesses and non-profits, which is where we shine. This typically means facilities such as small to middle retail, professional and medical offices, and the like. We’re more than happy to give preliminary information no matter your project size, and provide you with recommendations.

What are the financial and other benefits of installing solar?

  • There is a 30%+ federal tax credit for systems installed through the end of 2027 (credits will be lower after that)
  • You lock in predictable electricity costs
  • You gain better visibility into your energy use with energy monitoring

For businesses and non-profit organizations, a 30% tax credit is applicable for systems placed in service before the end of 2027. With the passage of HR1 in July 2025, some additional conditions were placed on what equipment can be used to receive this tax credit. Some equipment may also be able to receive bonus credits, if manufactured in the US, and some areas may receive additional credits if they are an “energy community.”

As noted above, a major benefit of solar is the predictable electric bill savings. As part of our proposal, we’ll provide a careful estimate of the bill savings from solar and expected bills.

It’s also worth noting that for many facilities, we are able to install whole-building energy monitoring, to allow you better visibility into your energy use, which can often reveal potential changes to your building operations that can bring additional savings.

Should I consider installing other technologies at the same time as solar?

You might be wondering: If I’m going to install solar, should I improve my facility in other ways at the same time? Depending on your priorities, and budget, this can be a wise decision.

Electric vehicle (EV) chargers make sense with solar

Energy efficiency measures pair well with solar installation

Electric vehicle (EV) chargers are a great choice to install with solar. Not only are you providing a benefit to your customers and employees, but many smart chargers can be programmed to charge when there is excess energy from your solar electric system, saving you more money.

It’s a great idea to consider energy efficiency at the same time or in conjunction with solar. Reducing your electricity use prior to solar will lead to a more cost-effective system. Although we are not an energy efficiency contractor, we can make recommendations and referrals to other great local companies who can help you with this process.

How long does the installation process take?

Typical timelines for rooftop solar installations are 4-6 months, depending on our schedule and complexity. We can share more information when we sit down with you.

For carports or ground mount solar installations, timelines are typically longer.

How do I start the process?

The best way to start is to get in touch with us. We’ll reach out to schedule a time to sit down with you at your facility or at our office to have a preliminary discussion. We take an educational and consultative approach. From there, you’ll be in touch with one of our experienced solar professionals who will be your main point of contact throughout the process.
